Information about Bureau

The Bureau of Research (Biuro Studiów i Ekspertyz) was established in 1990. In practice, it started working in autumn 1991 at the beginning of the first term of office of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland.

The Bureau renders services to fullfil needs of deputies and organs of the Sejm ranging from provision of concise basic information and legal consultations to preparation of written experts' opinions and reports requiring complex and time-consuming studies.

The Bureau gives opinions on draft legislation being under the Sejm consideration with special regard to their expected legal, social, economic and ecological consequences as well as burden they may impose on the State Budget.

The Bureau prepares opinions about guidelines of the Budget.

The Bureau experts participate in the sittings of the Sejm committees and subcommittees.

Inquiry Office of Parliamentary Consultants - Room no.12 on mezzanine of the Old Deputies' Hotel, tel. 694 2279, 694 2286, fax 694 2291 (opened during working days from 8.00 a.m. till 4.00 p.m. and during the Sejm proceedings till their end) - the Bureau section that ensures everyday and direct contact with Deputies and organs of the Sejm - gives immediate answers to questions that do not require in-depth studies, provides access to the Bureau's publications, seeks and submits texts of normative acts and Sejm papers and accepts inquiries for written experts' opinions.

The Bureau of Research also organizes seminars and conferencesconnected with the Sejm proceedings (it was the organizer or co-organizer of seminars on, among others: state budget drafting, banking system in Poland and Europe, parliamentary rules and procedures, status of a deputy, association agreement between Poland and European Communities, housing policy, privatization process, environmental education, lobbying, women in the public life).
